PayPal is a publicly traded online payment service that was formed in 1998 through the merger of Confinity and X.com. The company is headquartered in San José, California, and runs its European branch with an EU banking license in Luxembourg (since 2007). More than 377 million accounts use PayPal worldwide (as of 2020).

Integration in the appointment scheduling system
PayPal is the most frequently used payment option for prepayments on appointment bookings. The booking process is extended by a secure payment step:
- Customer completes the form
- Redirect to PayPal (or PayPal overlay)
- Payment is completed
- Return to the booking confirmation page
